FAQ

What is SimTuneAI?

SimTuneAI is a lightweight Windows desktop app that reads live telemetry from your sim racing games and gives you real-time data overlays, lap analytics, and AI-powered coaching — like having a race engineer on your pit wall.

Which sims are supported?

SimTuneAI currently supports:

  • Le Mans Ultimate / rFactor 2 — full telemetry
  • Assetto Corsa — full telemetry
  • Assetto Corsa Competizione — full telemetry
  • iRacing — full telemetry
  • EA Sports WRC — coming soon

We read directly from each game's shared memory, so there's no extra setup required — just launch your sim and SimTuneAI detects it automatically.

How does game detection work?

You don't need to configure anything. SimTuneAI scans your running processes and shared memory in the background. When it recognizes a supported sim, it connects automatically and starts streaming data at 60 updates per second.

What data can I see?

The dashboard shows live widgets for:

  • Speed, RPM, and gear — real-time readouts
  • Throttle and brake input — pedal trace visualization
  • Tire temperatures — inner, middle, and outer across all four tires
  • G-force meter — lateral and longitudinal forces
  • Lap times and delta — current vs. personal best
  • Lap history — full session log
  • Track map — live car position on the circuit
  • Fuel and weather conditions — strategic data at a glance
  • Setup sliders — reference your car setup alongside the data

What does the AI coaching do?

SimTuneAI analyzes your telemetry at the end of each lap and generates specific, actionable driving tips — things like "You're braking 12m too late into Turn 3" or "You're losing 0.3s from early throttle application in the chicane". It's like a real coach watching your data in real time.

You can use a local AI model (Ollama, completely private) or connect your own API endpoint — the choice is yours.

Is my data private?

Yes. SimTuneAI reads telemetry directly from your PC's memory. Your driving data never leaves your machine.

  • If you choose to use a local AI model via Ollama, even your coaching stays 100% on-device.
  • If you use an external API, only the telemetry summary for that lap is sent — never recordings, never personal information.

Does it affect game performance?

No. SimTuneAI reads shared memory passively — it doesn't inject anything into the game process. The memory read is a lightweight operation that takes microseconds. Your frame rate and input latency are completely unaffected.

What's the difference between Free and Pro?

Free gives you the core telemetry dashboard — speed, RPM, gear, pedals, lap times, and track map. Enough to start learning from your data right away.

Pro unlocks everything:

  • AI-powered lap coaching
  • Tire temperature analysis
  • G-force visualization
  • Setup sliders
  • Fuel strategy data
  • Voice readouts (text-to-speech)
  • All future features and game expansions

How does licensing work?

When you purchase SimTuneAI Pro, you receive a license key by email. Enter it in the app, and you're activated. Your license is tied to your hardware so it can't be shared, but if you upgrade your PC, just reach out and we'll transfer it — no hassle.

The app also works offline. After activation, you get a 7-day offline grace period before it needs to check in again.

Is it a subscription or a one-time purchase?

We'll announce pricing details on our storefront at simtune.ai. Our goal is to keep it affordable and fair for the sim racing community.

What happens if I lose my license key?

Your key is linked to your email address. Contact us and we'll resend it. If you need to move it to a new machine, we can reset the hardware binding for you.

How do I install it?

Download the installer from simtune.ai. It's a standard Windows installer (NSIS) — run it, and you're ready. No dependencies, no runtimes to install, no admin account needed.

What are the system requirements?

  • OS: Windows 10 or Windows 11
  • RAM: 4 GB minimum (the app itself uses very little)
  • Disk: ~100 MB installed
  • GPU: Not required — SimTuneAI uses a lightweight WebView, not a 3D engine

If your PC can run the sim, it can run SimTuneAI.

Can I use it with multiple sims?

Absolutely. SimTuneAI detects which sim is running and switches automatically. You don't need separate profiles or configurations. Close one sim, open another, and the data flows.

Does it work with VR?

Yes. SimTuneAI runs as a separate desktop window, so it works alongside any sim in VR. Many drivers keep it on a secondary monitor or tablet for quick reference between sessions. We're also building transparent overlay support (coming in a future update) so you can pin key data on top of your game.

Can the AI coach speak to me?

Yes. SimTuneAI supports text-to-speech via ElevenLabs (natural voice) or Windows built-in speech. When enabled, your AI coach reads tips aloud after each lap — just like real team radio. You can toggle it on or off per message.

Is the app open source?

No. SimTuneAI is a commercial product. However, it's built on open technologies (Tauri, React, Rust) and we're committed to transparency about how it works and what data it accesses.

What's on the roadmap?

We're actively building:

  • "Engineer" AI Crew Chief — an always-on AI race engineer you can talk to mid-session ("How's my fuel looking?" / "Should I pit next lap?")
  • In-game overlays — transparent, always-on-top widgets pinned over your sim
  • EA Sports WRC support — rally telemetry
  • Session replay — record and review full stints post-race
  • Sector analysis — per-sector time breakdowns vs. personal best
  • Setup sharing — export and import car setups with other drivers
